If your Mazda’s Bose system has developed a rattle or buzz from a front door speaker, especially on anything with bass in it, you are not imagining it and you have not damaged it. It is a known design fault, it affects a lot of Mazdas, and it is repairable.
What you will hear
A rattle or buzz from a front door. Worst on bass, and it gets louder as you turn the volume up.
It follows one corner of the car. Use the balance and fader on your screen to push the sound to one side — if the rattle moves with it, that speaker is the problem.
You can hear it with the stereo off. Knock on the lower door trim. If something buzzes back, that is the speaker, not the trim.
Why Mazda Bose speakers rattle
Water drains down inside the door, as it is designed to. The problem is the speaker frame behind it, which rusts. As the rust spreads it breaks the glue holding the cone and damper to the frame, and once that bond lets go the loose part vibrates freely against everything else.
That is the rattle. It is not the amp, it is not your head unit, and it is not something you have done. Mazda issued a service bulletin about it.
Which Mazdas
It shows up across the range — Mazda 3, Mazda 6, CX-5, CX-9, CX-30 and others. Roughly 2013 onward is where we see it most.
One thing to be clear on: this only applies to cars with the Bose premium system. Standard Mazda audio uses different speakers and does not have the same fault.
Do not fit random aftermarket speakers
This is the part worth reading twice, because it is the mistake we get called out to fix.
A Bose system is not just speakers. The amplifier is tuned around those exact speakers — their impedance, their output, how each one behaves in its position in the car. Drop a generic aftermarket speaker into one door and the amp carries on driving it as though the Bose unit were still there.
The result is a system that sounds worse than the rattle did. One door louder or quieter than the other, bass in the wrong place, the whole balance out. People then spend more money chasing a problem they created.
If your car came with Bose, keep it Bose.
